Quality Standards

The IIID core genomics laboratories are accredited by the National Association of Testing Authorities of Australia (NATA) in the Research and Development (R&D) program, to perform HLA sequence-based typing and viral sequencing in compliance with the ISO/AS 17025 standard for Laboratory testing. In June 2019 we were the first in Australia to be accredited under the new Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) standard exemplifying our commitment to continually improving standards for delivery of clinical and clinically related research data. This standard relates to the laboratory suitability for conducting clinical trials related laboratory testing, is recognized internationally and, within Australia, is audited by NATA.

The IIID core genomics laboratories are also accredited to perform sequence-based HLA typing in compliance to the standards of the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI). R&D accreditation demonstrates that the Institute has implemented good research management practices which provide collaborators with a high level of confidence in the validity and accuracy of results generated.

We have in place a rigorous Quality Management System to ensure that laboratory testing accords with published standards. Our Quality Management System is comprised of managerial and technical components to ensure that standards are met. These include ensuring that:

  • methods are validated and regularly reviewed

  • staff are trained in techniques and use of specialized equipment

  • equipment is calibrated

  • reagents are tested

  • samples are curated

  • data integrity is intact

Technical proficiency is regularly demonstrated by participation in external Quality Assurance Programs. Regular internal audits verify compliance to standards and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
